It's rare to find a song about accepting a situation.

Usually a song is about action: finding someone new, getting good and drunk, winning the girl back.

I guess it's hard to write a song about something passive.

 

But I remember everything.

When he sings, "Everyone I know goes away, in the end," he shows a photograph of his mother.  That's a detail I hadn't noticed before.

As an aside, when he and June were filming this video they went outside to a nearby bus stop during one of their breaks to talk with people on their way to work.  I always wondered if anyone believed them.

"Guess who I saw at the bus stop today?  Johnny Cash!"
"Uh-huh.  Was June there with him?"
"Well, as a matter of fact…"

And she could laugh away the dark clouds…

We all know now how their stories ended, but when this was filmed nobody knew:

This colour clip was shot silent in 1955 in Oklahoma City while Holly and Elvis Presley were working the two bottom slots on a country package tour headlined by Hank Snow — and apparently represents not only the earliest film footage of Holly but that of Elvis as well (he's dressed in a neon-bright green shirt).
