I've lived all over the country, and I've never seen any place work themselves into a panic over the weather the way East Texas does.

Every time it sprinkles the weatherman interrupt programming.  It's annoying and it's dangerous; like the little boy who cried wolf, the day will come when there really is a danger but nobody will believe them.

When I was just a boy, I thought the saddest part of the song was that his dog died.  Now that I'm old enough to understand, it hits even harder.

It's not about Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, by the way, but it is about a real person writer Jerry Jeff Walker shared a drunk tank with, a man who refused to give his real name and insisted on being called "Bojangles."

Tom T Hall (1936-2021)

There's no one genre of music I prefer over another.  When a song packs an emotional punch, that's what attracts me.  Tom T. Hall was a master at that.

There's a nice write up of the man and his career posted to Variety, which you can read HERE.  Here's an quote from that article I thought was particularly nice:

“The first guy who came up with a religion was sitting out under a tree by himself. So I thought the best way to get a real good religion is to go out and sit under a tree by yourself and let it all happen. …  Great idea. So, I have a weird kind of religion. But I guess it’s a good one. I’m gonna find out some day.”

 I love songs that tell a story or sketch a portrait.  Those are rare these days.

You can’t outrun it, which is what this character tries to do. And it’s very difficult to sort it out. But it’s the only way to go.”
