I, Robot

Andy Puzder, the CEO of Carl’s Jr., explains why (beyond the fact that they’re cheaper) he wants to replace his employees with robots (source):
“They’re always polite, they always upsell, they never take a vacation, they never show up late, there’s never a slip-and-fall, or an age, sex, or race discrimination case.”

There is another way to avoid slip-and-fall, age, sex and racial discrimination lawsuits that apparently hasn’t occurred to him yet:  provide a safe environment, and don’t discriminate on the basis of age, sex, or race.

But yeah, good luck with your Robot Work Force, Andy.  That’s not insane at all.

  1. I just don't think robots are what the general public is looking for. Go to any grocery store that has "SELF-CHECKOUT" lanes and manned lanes, and you will see the long lines at the manned lanes. People want interaction. There are a lot of lonely people in the world who may go to a store JUST TO TALK WITH SOMEONE. My husband and I went out to a nice restaurant this past week. There was an extremely kind man in the parking lot as we were leaving who struck a conversation with us. I could tell he was just hungry for someone to chat with. I enjoyed talking with him immensely. Everywhere you go , more and more, you see people with their eyes and ears glued to their cell phones, afraid to talk with others. Is this really the way we want our world to be?
