I'm currently reading The Autobiography of William Allen White, ©1946, and one advantage of reading old books is you learn new words.
Today I learned that an "octoroon" is a person who is one-eighth Black.
I can't imagine that this is a word that I will get to use much, but it's fascinating to me that at one time it would have been.
...what is strange is that having some great-great- something or other would have marked you so...
